Dr. Daniel Ryan


Dr. Ryan grew up in southeastern Michigan and graduated from Kalamazoo College with degrees in political science and health science. After graduating from Wayne State University School of Medicine where he served as President of his graduating class, Dr. Daniel Ryan completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Detroit Medical Center. He served as Chief Resident and published several papers.

Dr. Ryan is a founding partner of the Center for Physical Medicine P.C. and has been Medical Director for St Johns Home Health Care, Medical Director at St John’s Detroit Riverview Rehabilitation program, longtime Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Macomb/Oakland hospital and has been rehabilitation director for several subacute and long-term acute care rehabilitation programs. Dr. Ryan serves as President of the Medical Staff at Ascension Macomb/Oakland Hospital and has received several awards for high achievement in patient satisfaction including being voted by the nursing staff as a top caregiver.

He began the sports medicine program which provides athletic training services to local schools and has been the team physician for several local high schools. He has been the medical director of Southeastern Michigan’s post-polio clinic. Dr. Ryan is a member of many national and local medical societies, is past president of the Michigan Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and is past president of the Macomb County Medical Society. He is an assistant clinical professor at Wayne State University of Medicine and Michigan State University School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Ryan spends time volunteering for several local charities. He enjoys spending time with his family and has coached his children’s soccer and baseball teams. A collegiate tennis player, Dr. Ryan continues to play and plays weekly basketball and golf. He follows all Detroit sports teams, and college sports, and enjoys gardening, the beach, and reading history.

Dr. Aaron Sable graduated with his B.S. in Psychology with High Distinction from Wayne State University. He subsequently earned his M.D. from Wayne State University. Next, he completed his transitional internship at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center. His Physical Medicine &Rehabilitation Residency was completed at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

He went on to complete a Fellowship in Electrodiagnostic Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin/Milwaukee Veterans Hospital. Dr. Sable is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Sable previously practiced in Montana prior to returning to Michigan. Dr. Sable spends most of clinical time treating patients with neurological- musculoskeletal pain and disability.

His practice includes joint, tendon, and trigger point injections. He performs Botox injections for neurological conditions including spasticity, dystonia, and migraines. He is also able to prescribe Suboxone/buprenorphine. He will frequently help patients with making healthy choices for smoking cessation, diet, and exercise. He spends time with his wife and 2 sons often biking and doing other outdoor exercise-based activities.

Dr. Burton Engel


Dr. Burton Engel, MD has been a physician at the Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for the past 9 years. A large portion of his role is focused on performing image-guided interventional pain procedures in addition to seeing new and returning patients for comprehensive rehabilitation care and medical management. Dr. Engel was previously a faculty member of the Wayne State University Physician Group where he was heavily involved in resident education. He served as Assistant Residency program director and a lecturer in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. His practice and research focused on musculoskeletal, pain, sports, and spine care.

He taught resident physicians multiple fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided pain procedures as well as medication and rehabilitation management of debilitating and painful conditions. During his training, he was appointed Chief Resident at the University of Michigan Hospital in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation where he performed his residency. He received his training in interventional spine procedures at the University of Michigan Spine Center. His internship was at William Beaumont Hospital Department of Family Medicine.

He received his Medical Doctorate from Wayne State University where he also performed his master’s studies in biomedical sciences with a focus on exercise and pain physiology. He holds an additional Master of Education in curriculum design from the University of Detroit-Mercy. His bachelor’s degree was also earned at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is currently board certified with the American Board of Medical Specialties. He has continued educating as an adjunct professor teaching resident physicians interventional procedures.

His special interest includes comprehensive spine rehabilitation, interventional pain procedures, low back, and leg pain, chronic joint pain, sports injuries, headaches, arthritis, and tendonitis. Dr. Engel is a former award-winning high school teacher and coach. He has been highly involved in many various roles with high school and college lacrosse for both men and women. He is a father of 3 children and enjoys family water activities with them in Michigan. Dr. Engel is currently accepting patients from physician referrals as well as patient self-referral for primary treatment and second opinions. He offers both in-person and telemedicine appointments where appropriate
